I’m so excited to have a story in the upcoming anthology Anna Karenina Isn’t Dead, published by Improbable Press and edited by Atlin Merrick. The gorgeous cover art you see on the left is by Claudia Caranfa.
The anthology is inspired by the idea of rewriting the (out of copyright) literary lives of female characters who got a raw deal in the original telling – from Anna Karenina and Dido to Wendy Darling and Annabelle Lee. Thirty-two stories give these women not just new endings – some of them get different paths altogether, which avoid those endings of suffering, madness and/or death.
My story, “Metamorphosis”, sets Madame Butterfly on a different course.
It’s always a delight to be in a book with such great writers too, including some of my old anthology buddies, Dannye Chase, George Ivanoff, Jack Fennell, and Tansy Rayner Roberts. Other stories are by Yvonne Knop (whose Holmesian novel, A Case of Madness, is superb!), Aparna Kapur, Lena Ng, Samir Sirk Morató, Ali Coyle, Béatrice De Charmoy, Ceallach Stevens, Ann S Epstein, Ari Ochoa Contreras, Christina Ladd, Dana M. Evans, Jesse Friend, J.M. Cyrus, Jonathan Titchenal, Joseph S. Walker, Kenzie Lappin, Melissa Coffey, Miranda Jubb, Nelly Shulman, Nhu Le, Patsy Pratt-Herzog, Sadie Fox Curtis, Sheryl Clough, SM Lawson, Stacy Bierlein, Stephen D. Rogers and Zachary Rosenberg.
“In this anthology of literary women, these women live. Do they have a happily ever after? You’ll see. Do they have a happy-right-now? Oh yes.”
